The candle shop is a bustling zone at Anthropologie, and creating different levels of height to break up the space keeps the product from looking too overwhelming. The cement risers were made by coating sonotube cylinders and plywood circles with ready-mixed concrete patch. Once dry, a layer of joint compound was added on the tops as a variegated color treatment. The stacked-circle plinth was built from the same framework as the cement risers, with sonotube and plywood. Birch plywood faces were cut, and the sides were coated with birch veneer. A bowtie-shaped birch riser was made to match. As a second-phase treatment, both the bowtie riser and circle plinth were coated with joint compound for a white, textured look.
