*** Spring 2019 and Winter 2019 Update *** The mother and baby deer have lived in the store's vestibule for several seasons, adding a fresh touch for Mother's Day and getting pommed-wreaths for Christmas. *** NOVEMBER 2018 UPDATE *** The deer family now lives in a snowy forest, and they have packages to deliver for the holiday season. The stag was temporarily sitting majestically in the front of the store, but left to go on an adventure to Anthropologie in Oakbrook. The Oakbrook location shared their deer bust with us for the holidays. Anthropologie sent a foam base for each deer that was put together and attached to a wood platform. The stag's antlers were constructed from wooden dowels of various widths. Canvas was dyed in layers of raspberry, grey, and olive green. It was cut into pieces and adhered onto the deer bodies, keeping edges frayed for a natural look.

*** OCTOBER 2018 UPDATE *** The medallions were utilized as a backdrop for the Fall Fashion Show. String for the straight, large medallion was strung along chip board and dyed in batches. The small medallion string was swagged along the bottom of a wood inner-structure and spray-dyed. Once dry, the string was attached to the wood structure pieces, which was then treated with layers of paint and joint compound. The treatment was sanded for a marbleized-stone effect. The attachment brackets were covered in gold leaf and paint. The base platform was created from a sturdy plywood structure and treated with Venetian plaster, then sanded and buffed for shine. The "cage" platform topper was constructed with 2x2s and covered with copper tape to achieve an elevated, hammered-metal effect. On either side of the platform, wood two-way fixtures hold product and accessories. They were constructed with 2x2s and copper pipe. |
